Hong Jung-wook

Hong Jungwook (홍정욱) (born March 14, 1970) is the chairman and majority shareholder of Herald Corporation and related companies. Herald Corporation is a leading media and education group in Korea, which publishes The Korea Herald and The Herald Business, among others; operates Donga TV; and manages a nationwide language institute and English village network. He is also the founder of Olje Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting classics education. Under the vision "Life beyond Media," Herald Corp. is expanding its business domain beyond the media and education businesses into eco-friendly lifestyle businesses, including eco-materials, design, and food. In 2013, Herald Corp. acquired Cheonbo Natural Food and developed a new and integrated food brand Organica.
Between 2008 and 2012, he served as a representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, working on the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification Committee. He was also the chairman of the ruling Grand National Party’s International Affairs Committee and the Honorary Ambassador of Grant Aid for the Korean government. He was elected for Nowon-gu in Seoul.
Hong received his A.B. ''magna cum laude'' from Harvard College and J.D. from Stanford Law School. He also briefly studied international politics at the graduate school of Peking University prior to entering Stanford Law School. After graduating from law school, he passed the New York Bar and worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in New York. He has been selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and an Asia 21 Fellow by Asia Society. He has written many articles and published a book titled "Seven Acts Seven Scenes," an autobiography that has sold over 1 million copies in Korea.
